Ubisoft Dropping $505 Million in Jade Raymond’s Toronto Studio

Ubisoft’s Montreal team did wonders for the company, having brought the world massively successful franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell. The publisher sees the same level of promise in their up-and-coming Toronto studio, and they’re putting their money where their mouth is.

As such, $505 million is being invested in building up the Toronto branch, quadrupling the number of employees to over 800 strong. The studio, headed up by Jade Raymond, is currently working on a new Splinter Cell game and is made up of 210 staffers. It goes without saying that this substantial sum of money will do wonders for the team’s productivity.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Yannis Mallat, the CEO of Ubisoft Montreal shared that money isn’t the only thing being invested in the Ubisoft Toronto’s future, as a number of seasoned veterans are transitioning over to supply extra talent.

We are, in a way, applying the same recipe. We’ve been sending over experienced, senior people from Ubisoft Montreal as a guarantee that they immediately get traction and speed and knowledge in place so that they can recruit the best people. You can’t hope to have a studio up and running in one year by just hiring junior people.

Expect to hear more about what is to come from Ubisoft Toronto in the coming months.
