Rumors have started circulating the web that Sony could be taking the early leap into cloud gaming with support from either OnLive or Gaikai.
VG247 is reporting that there’s reason to believe that Sony will be bringing one of the popular cloud-based gaming services to the PlayStation platform very, very soon. According to the source, the partnership will be announced at E3 this year and will allow gamers to stream games on their PlayStation hardware.
Whether or not this functionality will be limited to the PlayStation 3 remains to be seen, but just thinking about the possibilities that come with bringing this service to the Vita sends chills down my spine.
Obviously, this is just a rumor right now, as Sony has said nothing on the matter, so bear that in mind. Fortunately E3 is now less than two weeks away, so we’ll know soon enough whether this report bears any weight.
