Peter Molyneux believes the PlayStation Vita is “gimmicky” and the device “doesn’t excite [him]”.
The former Microsoft Game Studios boss spoke about his thoughts on the handheld on Spike TV:
I have to say, purely speaking as a designer, it just doesn’t excite me. The back touch, I thought it was quite cute, there’s quite a few games that have the tap on the back. But, you know, I’m not there. I’m sorry. It’s gimmicky; it’s another thing to put in my pocket.
As such, Molyneux, who now heads indie game development studio 22 Cans, said his new company won’t be working on the PlayStation Vita. He did, however, pour praise on to Beyond: Two Souls:
Anything that David Cage does I think is super interesting. You can say what you like about his previous titles but they really are cutting edge and innovational [sic]. I love them. I love all of them.
Surprisingly, Sony didn’t spend a considerable portion of their press conference on the Vita. The device’s sales has been noticeably lacking since its launch but they only revealed the already-outed Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation and Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified.
