EA Added Cooperative Play to Dead Space 3 to Accomodate Easily Scared Gamers

If the super dark and tense atmosphere of the first two Dead Space games had you too frightened to play, the third installment‘s co-op feature was created just for you.

Laura Miele, marketing boss at EA told MCV that research indicates that many gamers were simply too scared to play through the first couple of games, so developer Visceral Games opted to include a co-op mode.

We were doing research coming out of Dead Space 1 and 2 and we’re really proud of those products. We received feedback to understand how we can take the game out to even more consumers. We were hearing feedback that they love the thriller game, but it was pretty scary, and the obvious next step was that they wanted to play with someone. So we introduced co-op into the game.

Personally, I would rather go to scary movie with my husband rather than sit at home with the lights out watching one on my own. We’re looking for that to reach out to consumers that perhaps were not open to Dead Space 1 and 2.

Electronic Arts has since released the footage they showed off during E3, which gives you a good look at how cooperative play will be integrated into the experience. We were quite pleased with how Visceral has managed to seamlessly integrate a second player, but we want to hear from you, so let us know what you think about the added functionality in the comments below.
