Kojima to Showcase the Fox Engine Tech Powering MGS5 Next Month

Last month, Hideo Kojima announced that he and the rest of his crew at Kojima Productions are “not yet finished” with Solid Snake, confirming that not only is a new Metal Gear Solid title is in the works, but that it will run on the studio’s new Fox Engine as well. Fortunately, it looks like we’ve only got one more month of waiting to do before we finally get to see the engine in action.

In an interview on the PS Blog, Kojima confirmed that on August 30th the nearly complete Fox Engine will be revealed for the world to see. In addition, he also discussed the process involved in making the engine, pointing out that Rising was originally supposed to be built using the tech before it was turned over to Platinum Games.

The Fox Engine is nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along. Originally we were going to do this for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but a lot happened along the way and instead it is being made with the engine they have at Platinum Games.

Production studios in Japan are nearly extinct, a fact that we have recognized for nearly 10 years, and although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do… on August 30th in Japan to be more specific.

I don’t know about you, but as a Metal Gear fanboy and lover of all things Kojima, I can’t wait. Share your excitement for the upcoming reveal in the comments below.
