Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 has become the most pre-ordered title in publisher 2K Games’ history.
Take-Two’s UK sales director Dave Gould spoke of 2K’s delight in the news to MCV:
We’re exceptionally happy with the level of support gamers have shown to Borderlands 2, and the pre-orders are reflecting what a beloved franchise this is.
Orders are increasing week-on-week at a rate we’ve never before experienced for a 2K title. They are exceeding our already high expectations, there’s huge momentum behind the game.
Rockstar and 2K Games’ parent company, Take-Two, had also confirmed similar a pre-order record for the sequel. CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors during the firm’s Q1 2013 earnings call that Borderlands 2 pre-order figures makes the game the third most pre-ordered title in the firm’s history.
Borderlands 2 is currently scheduled for a release in North America on September 18th. European regions, meanwhile, will receive the hotly anticipated game three days later on September 21st.
