United Front Games Talks Sleeping Dogs Success and Taking Risks

United Front Games, the studio behind the recently released Sleeping Dogs has done quite well considering the game’s rocky development history. Not only was the title rebranded a couple of times, it’s also a completely new IP, which always poses its own share of hurdles.

In an interview with VG247, UFG’s Jen Timms shared how much of a wonderful surprise the game’s success was. “Oh god we were so happy as a studio. The Sleeping Dogs team just worked so hard, and there had been some trials you know?” he said.

Much of the success of Sleeping Dogs can be attributed to the innovative risks the studio took, Timms explained, saying:

You do take risks, but that’s what we do as game developers right? We have our ideas, we want to get them out there and then we want to work on something new.

That’s what it’s all about and unfortunately we don’t always get the opportunity to do that because of the climate of the industry right now, but when you are an independent triple-a studio like we are – one of the few left around, especially in Vancouver – it’s not something you take lightly. We’re very proud and feel lucky of the fact that we do what we do.

United Front Games is currently working on LittleBigPlanet Karting, which is scheduled for release this November.
