Analyst “Increasingly Concerned” Grand Theft Auto V Will Launch Post March 2013

We still don’t know exactly when Rockstar Games plans to launch Grand Theft Auto V, but considering the fact that the next generation of consoles is rapidly approaching, one would assume it will likely launch during the first half of next year.

According to Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian, it looks increasingly likely that the game won’t launch before their projected March 2013 window. Speaking to GameSpot, Sebastian explained:

By no means am I convinced that it will miss March, but there are a couple of factors to consider. One, we haven’t heard anything definitive from the company on release timing. Second, retailers typically would want 4-6 months lead time to prepare for a launch as large as GTA, and from [what] I understand they haven’t heard anything. Third, Rockstar rightly prioritizes game quality over release date, and this dynamic could shift timing.

While launching by that time may have something to do with Take-Two’s financials, it’s also important to remember that Rockstar typically doesn’t release their games until May anyway. Whether or not that ends up being the case again remains to be seen. We’ll just have to sit tight and wait for official word from Rockstar.
