With the sexy ‘Super-Slim PS3‘ recently being revealed via Sony’s TGS pre-show, everyone wants to know just how skinny the console is, and thanks to GamesRadar‘s clever use of the Super-Slim PS3’s official specs, and glamor shots, this has already become a reality; but before that let’s look at the raw dimensions, and weight:
- First PS3: 12.75 x 3.86 x 10.8 in, 11lb
- Slim PS3: 11.42 x 2.56 x 11.42 in, 7.05lb
- TGS PS3: 11.42 x 2.36 x 9.06 in, 4.63lb
Thanks to these numbers, you’ve just been braced for the most underwhelming slim-job Sony’s ever released. As you can see the height is exactly the same as the Slim-PS3, but it does lose a little bit of width which is nice in comparison to the (possibly MGS inspired) box dimensions of the previous model.
Here’s where you really start to notice how little has been shaved off the new PlayStation 3 in comparison to its predecessor. The original on the other hand still looks like a gigantic bloated onyx king no matter what angle you rotate it.
So now we’re all stranded in the unsettling circumstance where we’re referring to a minor downsize as “Super-Slim” when really it just looks like an attractive make-over that uses the gloss from the original and textured surface of the redesign to create a machine that brings the PlayStation 3’s life full-circle all within a machine that runs off pure sex appeal electricity I’d imagine.
What are your thoughts on the third PS3; Is it small enough? Do you think the redesign was worth releasing a new model?
