Ubisoft isn’t Worried About the Impact Black Ops 2 Might Have on Far Cry 3

While Far Cry 3 is launching on the heels of what will likely be the year’s biggest FPS, Ubisoft isn’t worried about the selling power of their tropical island shooter.

Far Cry has always been a little bit off the map in terms of the offer that it gives,” Ubisoft brand manager Henri Guay told MCV, explaining that because it offers so much different from games like Call of Duty, it is bound to find an audience.

People are going to continue to play Call of Duty and people are going to look for experiences that give them something a little bit different. We feel we’re in a comfortable spot.

I think we’re in a lucky situation where Ubisoft, through all levels of the organization, was ready to make a commitment to the brand. To have the support at an organization level to say we’re committed was great.

Product manager Dan Hay went on to emphasize that “Far Cry 3 is a big game and there’s an expectation.” As for why they opted to delay the game to December, he explained:

We wanted to make it as great as it absolutely can be. There were a couple of things we were talking about cutting from the game that I just couldn’t bear to take away from the consumer. So the reality is that we have made a very strategic choice.

Far Cry 3 launches on December 4th for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
