Rumor: Tomb Raider May Include Multiplayer

Putting multiplayer modes into games primarily created for their single player campaign has been an increasingly popular trend among developers recently. According to some rumors, Tomb Raider may be in for the same treatment when it releases next year. UK retailer GAME had listed the title with a product description that included the statement: “…play a variety of multiplayer modes as Lara’s Shipmates or Yamatai’s Scavengers.” The current listing on GAME’s site has that portion removed, but a screen capture can be seen here at All Games Beta.

Joystiq points out that Square Enix teased a special secret announcement earlier this year that would “change the way you play Tomb Raider forever.” It’s unlikely that this is referring to Move controls or utilizing the hand-as-a-gun patent that Seb recently dug up, so it seems like multiplayer is in the cards for Lara’s upcoming adventure after all.

Are you excited for a possible multiplayer feature in the new Tomb Raider, or is this a far too overused feature in games that should remain a single player experience? Sound out in the comments.
