Well, it looks like we now know why Junction Point Studios closed down. NPD sales data, as reported by Joystiq, shows that Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two only managed to sell 529,000 copies across the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Wii U in November and December. This number is much greater than the 270,000 rumor that appeared a few weeks back, but 529,000 is still pretty low.
Just looking at the original Wii-only Epic Mickey, that one managed to sell a total of 1.3 million copies in the same time period when it launched back in 2010. With Epic Mickey 2 appearing on four times the amount of consoles as Epic Mickey 1, and selling less than half the amount, Disney couldn’t have been happy.
The only bright spot for the Epic Mickey franchise is that the 3DS-only Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion moved 695,000 copies in November and December, meaning that we could see more handheld releases, since this was developed by DreamRift.
Would you like to see the Epic Mickey franchise appear on the PlayStation Vita? Or would you rather Mickey just get his own area in Disney Infinity and let the Epic franchise go? Let us know in the comments below.
