Fumito Ueda Gives Update On The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian was revealed officially at E3 2009 during the Sony press conference, shortly after PSLS regrettably revealed it as Project Trico (yes, we regret the decision to leak it given the bumpy road the project has taken). Since then, it’s seen numerous delays and setbacks, including key team members departing the project – even Team ICO head honcho, Fumito Ueda left Sony and instead works on the project as a freelancer.

Ueda, who is still heavily involved with the project, has given an update on The Last Guardian:

As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.

While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN’s release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with THE LAST GUARDIAN project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.

At least we can rest assured that The Last Guardian is still in development. However, with no timeline or release date in place, it may arrive extremely late in the PS3’s lifecycle, or…

It’s only speculation at this point, but The Last Guardian‘s absence could be attributed to development being switched over to the PS4. That’d be one hell of a bombshell to drop along with the impending PS4 reveal at next week’s PlayStation Meeting.

Stick with PlayStation LifeStyle for continuous coverage of both The Last Guardian and the PlayStation Meeting 2013 – we’ll be live in attendance reporting on all the breaking news as it happens.
