With some of our staff gearing up for the big PlayStation meeting at 3PM PST/6PM EST (PSLS will have a live stream), our stable of writers this time around is one or two smaller, though we did manage to add Jonathan Leack from Game Revolution to help us out.
Since we wanted to focus on that big meeting today, but were tired of constantly saying that we thought the PS4 system would be revealed, we decided to keep this question away from the PS4 system itself. This doesn’t mean that we can’t talk about PS4 games, PS4 advertising strategy, or anything like that though, just not the actual console.
So, with that, we asked everyone: Besides the PS4, What do you Think Will be Announced at the PlayStation Meeting Today?
Anthony Severino – In NYC (@Sev_Anthony)
Pfft, I’ll be there live so instead of speculating, I’ll just sit back and watch from the comfort of my cozy seat at the Hammerstein Ballroom. Although, I am expecting The Last Versus Guardian Bandicoot 4 Premium Edition, lots of 4s, and the new PlayStation Network.

As this is a prime opportunity for Sony to capitalize on the “Four” trend, I think that Sony needs to bump everything in its lineup to the fourth iteration and integrate directly with the PS4. Wonderbook 2? Forget it, let’s move straight to Wonderbook 4! And speaking of ‘move’…. Move 4 anyone? The poor, floundering Vita would probably do better if there were to be a Vita 4 on the market… System seller. We’ll probably see Metal Gear Solid 4…. again, but that’s ok. It’s a 4. The Last of Us 4 as a PS4 launch title, please? And let’s have it by the end of the year. They will also be sure to point out that the PlayStation 4 is not currently associated with the seductive 4-Play Station, but will not rule out future profligate partnerships.

Given the number of rumors going on about a redesigned PS Eye, and leaked images of the new controller (dev model) showing an integrated Move bar, I feel Sony will have to show off a new camera. As Microsoft have already taken the lead on the motion gaming market this generation, Sony will have to make an good impression as early as possible to capture the attention of fans to be competitive next-gen. Also, I hope for a PSpony unveiling.

I’m going to go the more obvious route and guess that North America and Europe will follow in Japan’s footsteps and receive a PlayStation Vita price cut. Not only that, I expect to see some Beyond: Two Souls on PS3, and either Uncharted 4 or Killzone 4 running on the PS4.
And if we’re lucky, Kaz will give us many months worth of memes.

I’m expecting a PlayStation Vita price cut will be announced for outside of Japan, since this makes sense given the recent Japanese price reduction. I believe Sony will also announce exciting Gaikai news in regards to the PlayStation 4 and Vita possibly playing PS3 titles via cloud gaming. The PlayStation Fourbis isn’t expected to be capable of playing PS3 titles, but, it could run cloud versions for free as long as the PS3 disc is in the console. Let’s just hope Sony utilizes Gaikai in a consumer friendly manner.

What better way to show off new hardware than a game that pushed the limits of current-generation PCs? The game I’m speaking of is PlanetSide 2, and it’s a perfect fit for Sony’s PlayStation 4 debut. Gamers were impressed with MAG, and PlanetSide 2 takes the MMOFPS genre to another level with massive landscapes that are the perfect grounds for epic combat experiences. Not only was the game made internally at Sony (Online Entertainment), but its management team has showed an interest in bringing it to consoles. The PlayStation 3 would probably explode while trying to run it, but the PlayStation 4 may very well be up to the task.

Once the PS4 is announced, it will need some studio support to help with its anticipation. I’m expecting Naughty Dog and Insomniac both to have games on the PS4 list. Another Killzone title will probably be thrown in the mix as well.
Sebastian Moss – Is Ready (@SebMoss)
PS Vita price cut, Kaz screaming Ridge Racer for about 3 hours, Guerrilla Games’ new IP, Jack Tretton getting ear extension surgery and renaming himself Jax, Sucker Punch’s new IP, Super Rubber Dub 2, Gran Turismo 6 teaser, more Ridge Racer screaming, Battlefield 4.
It’s gonna be awesome.
What do you think will be announced later today? Let us know in the comments below.
