Sony: “There Will Definitely be a Prominent Role” for PlayStation Plus “in the PS4 Landscape”

With PlayStation Plus becoming the highly subscribed service that it is on PS3 and PS Vita, many people have been wondering how it will be utilized for the PlayStation 4. In an interview on the PS Blog, Jim Ryan, SCEE President and CEO, talked about how he sees PS+ evolving over the next couple of years as we transition into a new console generation:

We’re very happy with the service that we’ve been able to offer with PS Plus. It’s been really well received – the value is quite extraordinary and the take-up has trebled over the course of the past year. We definitely see that as a core part of the way forward. We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus but there will definitely be a prominent role to play for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape.

While he clearly didn’t come out and say exactly how it would work on PlayStation 4, his comment does mean that taking advantage of the extra 3 month PS+ offer (ends March 4th) and $10 credit on the PSN right now to extend/start your membership wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Do you think we’ll see PlayStation Plus on PS4 on launch day? Or many months later like they did with the PlayStation Vita? Let us know in the comments below.
