Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Officially Unveiled – Details, Trailer, Release Date, PS3 & PS4

After a variety of different leaks over the last few days, Ubisoft has officially confirmed everything we already knew about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, including the October 29th release date on PlayStation 3. They also announced that a PlayStation 4 version is coming, though no date was given, just that it isn’t October 29th. And if you get either a PS3 or PS4 copy of the game, you’ll be given 60 minutes of additional downloadable gameplay, which is scheduled to be out after launch.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has been in development for nearly two years, with Ubisoft Montreal at the helm, while receiving support from Ubisoft’s Annecy, Bucharest, Kiev, Quebec, Singapore, and Sofia. The game follows Edward Kenway, a British Man who goes from privateering for the Royal Navy into piracy at the start of the 18th century. As you travel through ACIV, you’ll then encounter other pirates such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane through your journey in the West Indies.

Black Flag includes a big open world with over 50 navigable locations, combat combines weaponry of the Assassin’s Order with those of this era, and Ubisoft says that the multiplayer is “more varied and ruthless than ever.”

Yves Guillemot, CEO at Ubisoft, talked about the latest Assassin’s Creed title:

With the new hero and new setting we are creating the boldest and most unique Assassin’s Creed game yet, while still respecting the pillars of the franchise that have made it such a fan favorite. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is based on a true, harsh and exciting part of a legendary era and will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Pre-orders from either GameStop in the United States or EB Games in Canada will be met with a Limited Edition poster, featuring artwork by Todd McFarlane.
