Ubisoft: “We Won’t be Doing Naval Multiplayer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag”

Naval battles were an awesome addition to the Assassin’s Creed franchise when they debuted this past October in Assassin’s Creed III, and when the pirate theme of the ‘fourth’ iteration in the franchise was announced, it seemed like they would be a main focus.

While that rings true for the single player side of things, multiplayer is a different story, as Carsten Myhill, Lead Content Manager at Ubisoft Montreal, told CVG:

We’re going to be communicating big on multiplayer in the coming weeks. However, what I can say is that unfortunately we won’t be doing naval multiplayer for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.

The reason for that is that we really wanted to take it to the next level for an open-world pirate experience, and all our effort has gone into that. Of course, it would be great, but sadly not.

Considering that many fans of the series are likely to be disappointed by this news, Ubisoft may respond with some post-launch multiplayer naval battles, but that’s mostly wishful thinking on my part.
