We’ve had a very busy day here at PSLS with God of War: Ascension news. First it was our full review, then a trophy guide, and further details about the multiplayer. As if all that wasn’t enough, we’ve got a few more tidbits of information to hold you over until you can actually buy the game on Tuesday.
First off, in the PS Blog post announcing Trial of the Gods, Aaron Kauffman, Community Strategist at Sony Santa Monica, was asked whether the mode would include local co-op, in addition to the online co-op:
Unfortunately, there is no local co-op support. We explored this, but ultimately determined not to pursue further. Thanks for understanding. All MP modes are online only.
On a similar note, stereoscopic 3D was explored for God of War: Ascension, but they also decided not to pursue it any further. And for more Gods for you to align with other than Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, and Ares, he said there were “no further plans as of this time.”
Turning to the PSN, Aaron said that they’ll have “digital download information forthcoming soon.” Being a first party title, the odds are quite high that Ascension would be a day 1 digital title, so stay tuned to PSLS for information as it arrives. Let’s just hope they don’t leave it to the last minute.
In case you’ve forgotten about the storyline in God of War: Ascension and want a refresher, the FAQ on GodofWar.com describes it best (spoilers ahead if you haven’t played a God of War game before):
God of War: Ascension is a prequel to the original God of War. It is an unexpected and riveting journey that tells the dark and more human past of Kratos before he became the “Ghost of Sparta”, when he was a Man.Specifically in the timeline, God of War: Ascension’s story begins… six months have passed since Kratos stood over the bodies of his wife and child, his hands stained with their blood – tricked by Ares into murdering the only people he ever loved. Swearing to avenge them, Kratos broke the blood oath that bound him to Ares, but oaths to Olympus are not so easily broken… Sentenced to an eternity chained within a prison for the living damned, Kratos battles insanity at the hands of the Furies. He will be tested as he seeks freedom, redemption for his sins, and the clarity to avenge his family.
