Ratchet & Clank Movie Blasts to the Screen in 2015, Ratchet & Clank Themed PSN Sale Starts April 30th

Teaming up with Blockade Entertainment and Rainmaker Entertainment (Escape From Planet Earth), Sony has announced that a Ratchet & Clank movie is in production now and is targeting a 2015 release date. Written by T.J. Fixman, writer on all the recent Ratchet & Clank Games, the movie will also see Insomniac playing a “hands-on” role with the production. screenplay, character development, and animation consulting.

Here’s a teaser video to get you excited for the movie, which includes voice actors from the games, including James A. Taylor as Ratchet, David Kaye as Clank and Jim Ward as Qwark:

Directed by Jerrica Cleland, the Ratchet & Clank movie is described as “sort of a retelling and re-fleshing out of the origin story,” with this being the overview from the press release:

Ratchet and Clank tells the story of two unlikely heroes as they struggle to stop a vile alien named Chairman Drek from destroying every planet in the Solana Galaxy. Ratchet is the last of his kind – a foolhardy ‘lombax’ who has grown up alone on a backwater planet with no family of his own. Clank is a pint-sized robot with more brains than brawn. When the two stumble upon a dangerous weapon capable of destroying entire planets, they must join forces with a team of colorful heroes called The Galactic Rangers in order to save the galaxy. Along the way they’ll learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity.

Ted Price, Founder and CEO of Insomniac Games, talked a little about the movie:

We’ve always thought Ratchet and Clank would be a fantastic all-ages movie and are thrilled our intergalactic heroes will finally get their chance to shine on the big screen. Insomniac is especially honored to play a hands-on role with the film’s production, including the screenplay, consulting on character development and animation, and adding support to the film’s marketing.

Starting April 30th, there will be a sale on all Ratchet & Clank games on the PSN, with full prices and info likely to come on Monday when the PlayStation All-Stars Heritage Sale gets detailed. And if you’re wondering whether they’d be giving us an update on Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault on PS Vita or Ratchet: Deadlocked—well, they didn’t.
