Shahid Ahmad: Sony has “More Developer Engagement on PS4 Than We’ve had for any Previous Console”

Shahid Ahmad, Senior Business Development Manager at SCEE, made quite the stir last week when he teased “an amazing big title coming to Vita.”

Well, Shahid recently talked to Gamasutra about all things PlayStation, revealing that “I think we’re going to have a really [PS4] good launch, and I think we’re going to have a good amount of content appearing for quite some time on that. We’ve got more developer engagement on PS4 than we’ve had for any previous console, so that’s a really healthy sign.” This is a very good thing for everyone because, as Ahmad said: “There isn’t a console in history where making sure that you have content for it wasn’t an issue.”

The influx of support for the PS4 is thanks in large part to their Indie initiative that has seen Sony reaching out to smaller developers in recent years. What started out as Sony doing outreach to “partners that we’d engaged with already,” quickly expanded into them looking at other areas, with Shahid saying that “games are important of course, but more important to me were the people making the games, because those are the people you’re going to make the relationships with, and what you’re interested in is what they’re going to be producing.”

Even with all this extra support, do you think we’ll still see a lull in releases following the PS4 launch? Let us know in the comments below.
