Final Fantasy Game Director Believes That if the X/X-2 HD Remaster is Successful, Final Fantasy XII Could Follow

As the painstaking wait for the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PS3 and PS Vita continues, Yoshinori Kitase, Game Director on numerous Final Fantasy titles, talked to RPGSite recently. In the interview, he reveals that, if the HD Remaster does well, it “will pave the way for more of the previous games to [be] remade in an HD sort of quality,” calling out Final Fantasy XII as the most obvious title to do next.

While the Final Fantasy XII HD possibility is more or less his personal opinion, Yoshinori revealed that “from day one we always wanted to include X-2 and not just do X.” Since Square Enix wanted to make sure they could actually do Final Fantasy X-2 in HD, and “didn’t want to announce too big a project before we had some real conviction it could be completed”. Final Fantasy X HD on its own was shown off first.

As of right now, the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, which has “a lot of technical challenges and more issues that we had to tackle,” is dated for the always vague ‘2013’, but we’ll let you know when that gets narrowed down.

When do you think Square Enix will give us the release date for the Remaster? TGS? Would you buy a Final Fantasy XII HD Remaster? Let us know in the comments below.
