The Last of Us Sells 3.4 Million: Major Nelson Offers Congratulations, 1 Minute of Clicker, GOW Meets TLOU Art

As if all the amazing reviews and retail chart domination in the UK and Japan (for the first week at least) weren’t a big enough clue, Sony has confirmed that The Last of Us has sold a whopping 3.4 million copies as of July 3rd, meaning it achieved this number in just under 3 weeks.

These sales include both retail and digital copies of The Last of Us, with Sony saying it “surpassed all sales expectation to become the fastest-selling PS3 title of 2013.” In addition to that, it’s also become the “fastest selling new software title in the history of PlayStation 3.”

Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios, spoke about the impressive numbers:

These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us. The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example.

When news of this broke, Major Nelson congratulated Naughty Dog by saying, “Congrats to @Naughty_Dog – that is quite the achievement (or rather Trophy).”

Skipping over to the clickers in The Last of Us, here’s over 1 minute of them being themselves. Please only use this for good and not evil:

Finally, forum user morepolys took to the Epic Games forums to post their art of God of War meets The Last of Us (click for full screen):

The goal “is to have a small slice of a game level which will eventually have breakdowns of modeling/materials/lighting techniques,” so if you like it, be sure to keep an eye on them.
