Ask PSLS: What is the Funniest Game You’ve Ever Played?

Cameron’s review of Deadpool went up recently, and one of the few things he really enjoyed about the game was all the humor. Naturally, that led this Ask PSLS to be: What is the Funniest Game You’ve Ever Played?

Anthony Severino – The Severer (@Sev_Anthony)

I’m a big grump. I can’t think of even one game that I’d consider ‘funny’. No matter how much I try. If I have to say something, I’ve been laughing a lot while playing Game & Wario on the Wii U, simply because my wife and I can’t draw, yet we like to play the sketch game and take awful drawings and try to guess what it is we’re drawing.

But yeah, read everyone else’s examples, and I didn’t play any of those games. I guess I prefer games that are serious. Yeah, that’s it!

Cameron Teague – Pool Boy (@Cameron_PSLS)

I am going with Deadpool. I have played some games that have made me chuckle at times or smile here and there, but this was the first game to really make me lol. It was just such random humor that fit in just beautifully with the game and character that it was never out of place.

Chandler Wood – Butt Stallion (@FinchStrife)

Off the top of my head I have to say the humor in Borderlands 2 is pretty top notch, especially the character of Mr. Torgue Flexington who is introduced in the Campaign of Carnage DLC, and continues his hilarity with a small role in the Assault on Dragon’s Keep add-on. I’m also a huge fan of Claptrap and his interactions with the world of Pandora.

The humor in Borderlands 2 is very clever and at times can be very dark. If the game ever gets too silly, they add a dark and depressing twist. If it’s too dark, they add humor to sadistically lighten the mood. It walks this fine balance using well written, depraved, and maniacal characters and Gearbox have truly created a twisted yet hilarious masterpiece in which to house such mature content.

Jason Dunning – His Arms Are Dangerous (@Jasonad21)

There are so many good choices out there from Ratchet & Clank to Jak & Daxter to Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga to DLC Quest to a million others, but the game that immediately jumped into my head when I heard the question was Armed & Dangerous for the Xbox 1 (not the Xbox One). It’s essentially a generic third-person shooter, but the inventive guns and hilarious writing had me playing through the game until the very end, remembering it fondly after all these years.

Joseph Fait – His Fait is Sealed (@AcesHigh291)

Saints Row: The Third! From the beginning Star Wars text crawl with 2001: A Space Odyssey music rolling over it really set a dumb, fantastic tone for me. I mean c’mon, there is a dedicated zombie voice for the protagonist, it makes absolutely NO SENSE, but somehow in the context of the Saints universe, it works.

Louis Edwards – You Guys! (@ftwrthtx)

No game has made me chuckle and laugh more than the original South Park game. It came out when the show was still popular and the crude humor was still pretty funny. At the time it was, by far, the funniest game I’ve ever played. It might not come across now as being all that humorous, but at the time nothing was funnier.

Sebastian Moss – He Calls Them Moss-otovs (@SebMoss)

The Last of Us online. I have a right good laugh maiming people and using their crawling bodies to draw in more enemies, which I then Molotov. Hehe.
