PayDay 2 Sold 1.58 Million Copies During its First Month, Just 20% of That Was Through Retail

Normally we’d save news like this for The Catch-Up, but when a game that was up against some really heavy-hitters last month (Saints Row IV and Madden NFL 25 are just a couple examples) manages to do well, we thinks it’s worth pointing out.

In a very short press release (through Google Translate), Starbreeze has announced that PayDay 2 sold 1.58 million copies worldwide in its first month at retail and digital download. Now, with 80% of the copies sold digitally, it lessens the chances of us seeing PayDay 2 in the August 2013 NPD charts releasing later today, but it did manage first and second on the PlayStation Network in Europe and North America, respectively.

David Goldfarb, Game Director at Overkill Software, was interviewed by VGR recently, revealing that the first of five planned DLC packs will be Armored Transport, though he didn’t mention what exactly would be involved with it. Also, he was asked if we could expect new weapons, skills, or gameplay tweaks in future updates, to which David responded, “All of the above. So very much of that. New difficulties, Safehouse, even some unexpected things.”
