As part of an interview with Famitsu (via Kotaku) Hideo Kojima revealed that, when it comes to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes, “I actually considered not including the ‘!’ mark that appears when enemies discover you.”
This was in an effort to make the new game more realistic, but as he continued, “The staff said, ‘if you get rid of it, it’ll cause an uproar!’ Considering the console specs, it would have been possible to substitute with facial expressions and gestures. But when the character visuals are that realistic, you need to have a certain element of ambiguity.”
Hideo Kojima also wants “to include the cardboard box” within the game, so that should be a returning staple as well.
With this news, I’m so glad that Hideo Kojima decided to keep the ‘!’ in the new Metal Gear game because removing something so synonymous with the series would have been a bad decision that made some people quite upset and likely would’ve prompted petitions to put them back.
Are you happy to hear that ‘!’ and cardboard boxes (most likely) will be returning in Metal Gear Solid V? Let us know in the comments below.
