Rumor: Call of Duty: Ghosts Getting Dedicated Servers on PS3 & PS4

Though other platforms have been confirmed to be getting dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Ghosts, Activision and Infinity Ward have been very dodgy when it comes to answering the question of whether or not the PS3 and PS4 would see them as well.

In a new update from Executive Producer Mark Rubin (which the Infinity Ward Twitter account re-tweeted), he seems to suggest that they will by confirming them for “current gen” and “next gen” platforms:

I wanted to give a quick update on some of the work that has been done to improve everyone’s online experience. We’ve already mentioned dedicated servers as part of the overall plan to improve connectivity. Dedicated servers will be used on current gen, next gen and PC with Ghosts. And, in order to make sure that people have the best possible experience regardless of platform, location or connection, Ghosts will be using a hybrid system of dedicated servers and listen servers.

So no matter where you are the game will always be trying to give you the best online performance possible. There is also some great new tech in the matchmaking system that will place players in matches that have the best combined overall connectivity performance. Again these are just some of the things that are going into Call of Duty: Ghosts to give players a great online experience. Can’t wait to see you all online.

Since it was vaguely written, Rubin was asked on Twitter for clarification if this meant PS3 and PS4:

I can’t call out other platforms by name but one might assume that from what I wrote.

And:

We can’t call out any other platforms by name. Can only say current gen, next gen and PC.

Someone also asked if current gen and next-gen consoles could play with each other:

I’m afraid not. The platforms are designed to work that way.

Because their wording no longer excludes PlayStation platforms, it appears dedicated servers will be coming to PS3 and PS4, but since there isn’t official confirmation, take this as a rumor for now. We’ll let you know when we hear more about dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS3 and PS4.

Call of Duty: Ghosts releases on November 5th for PS3 and November 15th/29th for PS4.
