When it comes to replacing the PS4’s HDD with another one, Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that you’ll be able to do the installation at “anytime”, meaning you don’t have to wait until your PS4 is first setup. If you decide to install the new HDD after using your PS4 and downloading games/content, you will need to redownload those games/content from your Download List on the PlayStation Store, rather than just being able to transfer them directly.
For those of you wondering what upgrading your HDD would mean for The PlayRoom, which is pre-loaded on every PS4, Shuhei said you will be able to get it again, just “not from the store, but you’ll get it again.” It remains to be seen if he means it is built into the PS4 system itself, but you at least don’t have to worry about losing the game, which was just rated by the ESRB:
This is a collection of mini-games that instructs players on the various system and controller features of the PS4 console.
