PS4 User’s Guide Says no 3D Blu-ray Playback, Shuhei Yoshida Confirms: “Not at Launch”

If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty of the PlayStation 4, you can read through the entire PS4 User’s Guide before you get your hands on the console this month.

Something interesting you’ll find out about the PS4 in the guide is how it won’t support 3D Blu-ray playback (via TSA), as you can see in the ‘Playing Videos on Discs’ section:

Playback of the following types of discs is not supported:

  • CD
  • BD-RE ver.1.0
  • BD-R/RE XL
  • Blu-ray 3D
  • DVDs that have not been finalized

When asked on Twitter if the PS4 would support 3D Blu-ray disc playback, Shuhei Yoshida said, “Not at launch, sorry.”

Once Sony reveals a release date for an update to enable 3D Blu-ray playback, as well as support for DLNA and MP3, we’ll be sure to let you know.

What do you think about the lack of 3D Blu-ray support on PS4 at launch? Let us know in the comments below.
