PS4 System Software Update 1.51 Now Available in Europe

If you want to save yourself some time updating your PS4 this week, Sony has uploaded system software version 1.51 to their website.

To download update 1.51 from your computer with a USB stick (at least 300MB of free space required), follow these instructions:

  1. On the USB storage device, create folders for saving the update file. Using a computer, create a folder named “PS4”. Inside that folder, create another folder named “UPDATE”.
  2. Download the update file, and save it in the “UPDATE” folder you created in step 1. Save the file with the file name “PS4UPDATE.PUP”.
  3. Turn off the power of your PS4 system completely. Check that the power indicator is not lit. If the power indicator is lit orange, touch the power button on the PS4 system for at least seven seconds (until the system beeps a second time).
  4. Connect the USB storage device that the update file is saved on to your PS4 system, and then touch the power button for at least seven seconds. The PS4 system starts in safe mode.
  5. Select [Update System Software]. Follow the screens to complete the installation.

For anyone who decides to replace the PS4’s HDD, you’ll need to follow these steps when installing system software 1.51:

  1. On the USB storage device (at least 900MB of free space required), create folders for saving the update file.
  5. Select [Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software)]. Follow the screens to complete the installation.

Of course, you will be free to update your PS4 normally through the internet if you’d rather go that route, but be aware of possible PSN issues that may arise with everyone trying to connect at the same time.
