Pachter: 55% of PS4s Going to North America Right Now, Sony is Making 1 Million Consoles Per Month

After Sony confirmed that they’d sold 2.1 million PS4s worldwide as of December 1st, 2013, Wedbush Securities Analyst Michael Pachter (via GI.Biz) told investors that he thinks Sony is making 1 million PS4s a month. If this holds true, the PS4 will easily reach the goal of selling 5 million units by the end of this fiscal year.

With Sony’s announcement of 2.1 million sold, he says that it fits well with estimates of the company beginning manufacturing on September 1st, while adding that it takes up to three weeks from a system to go from creation to store shelves.

Pachter continued:

We expect Sony to continue to ship 1 million consoles per month, so as of the end of January, we believe Sony will have manufactured a cumulative 5 million consoles and will have shipped 4.25 – 4.5 million. We expect the 55 percent allocation to North America to continue through January, and then revert to a more normalized 40 percent of units once Sony launches in Japan and other countries. We think that Microsoft is on a similar production schedule, with similar allocations to North America.

He also noted how GameStop has been receiving about half of all PS4 stock in North America, but that will likely be lowered to around 30% in 2014.
