In the 101st episode of the PlayStation Blogcast (which celebrates them reaching the 100 episode mark), Sony Computer Entertainment America Boss Jack Tretton was interviewed, and he talked about PlayStation 4 stock:
You get asked sometimes, ‘Do you create an artificial shortage because you want there to be a feeding frenzy?’ No you don’t! I mean, you have competition out there, and there are lots of things that people can spend money on, especially during the holidays, and holidays only come around once a year, so that’s really when you want to take advantage of the market opportunity.
So we manufactured every unit that we could get our hands on. And the good news is… [the PS4 is] far and away the largest launch in console history, not just PlayStation history, gaming history.
As well, he spoke of some really high numbers when the PS4 was in stock at Amazon last week:
I think we made 12,000 [PS4s] available to Amazon last week and they went out in 27 minutes. When you can sell 12,000 in 27 minutes, it takes some big numbers to satisfy the demand out there.
What do you think of those sales numbers on Amazon? Let us know in the comments below.
