Best New IP of 2013 Award

Winner: The Last of Us

The Last of Us is so good, it’s been compared to The Last of Us. Naughty Dog made a somewhat gutsy move debuting a brand new Intellectual Property on PS3 when the next platform was just around the corner, but most players agree that the move paid off.

Evidence of this can be seen in how torn people are in discussing possible sequels. Some are so content to see a perfect, complete, self-contained story that they’d rather Naughty Dog not pick The Last of Us name up again (they will).  Others were so attached that they’re demanding more games in this universe, possibly even connecting to the same story. But whether you fall into the former, the latter, or any of the several variables that have been suggested, the fact remains that this new IP drew people in and didn’t let go. The reason we have these feelings about it — even though we might disagree with each other — is because we were emotionally affected by The Last of Us.

There’s almost no wrong move here. Whether Naughty Dog adds another game to this universe or allows the original game to remain a standalone work of art, the point remains that this new series left a hell of an impact in 2013.
