Following a leak on Xbox.com yesterday, Sega has officially confirmed Alien: Isolation, a new first-person survival horror shooter from Creative Assembly set for release on PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in late 2014.
Starring Amanda, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, and set 15 years after Alien, here’s the description of Alien: Isolation from Xbox.com:
Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance.
As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.
The official Sega press release also detailed a few more things about Alien: Isolation:
On a decommissioned trading station in the fringes of space, fear and panic have gripped the inhabitants. Players find themselves in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger as an unpredictable, ruthless Xenomorph is stalking and killing deep in the shadows. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.
Alistair Hope, Creative Lead at Creative Assembly, spoke about the game:
In Alien: Isolation, we have taken the series back to the roots of Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie, the original survival horror. Our Alien is a truly terrifying creature, as intelligent as he is hostile, relentless, brutal and unstoppable. This is the Alien game fans of the series have always wanted.

The game has been in development for over three years, with a build “playable from start to finish,” as Lead Game Designer Gary Napper told Joystiq. As well, Napper said there’s “no multiplayer whatsoever,” with the DualShock 4’s touch pad being used to control a pause screen map, and the light bar also having uses.
