Pachter Says PlayStation Now is a Joke, “Has no Prayer of Working”

Because we’re never ones to pass up an opportunity for you to laugh, we’ll let you know of Michael Pachter’s latest ‘prediction’, where he called PlayStation Now, Sony’s upcoming game streaming service, “a joke.”

This quote comes via the March 2014 issue of Game Informer (via Videogamer), with the analyst saying:

PlayStation Now is a joke. There is no publisher that is going to license content that’s less than two-years old because they would be concerned that they can’t sell as many copies if they make it available for subscription or rental.

This has no prayer of working. None.

Just looking at the PlayStation Now beta happening right now, Sony is already supporting it with Puppeteer, a game that came out 5 months ago in September. Most of the other titles from 1st and 3rd party publishers, however, are much older.

On the 3rd party side, John Koller did say they’re working with publishers to get titles at PlayStation Now launch, and he specifically singled out titles from “‘06 to ’09” for PS Now, showing how Sony isn’t necessarily targeting newer games for the service.

Also, if you compare PlayStation Now to PlayStation Plus, Sony has managed to partner with many 3rd party publishers to give away games for free through PS+ less than a year after those games released at retail.

PlayStation Now is scheduled to release in full this summer for the US, with other countries and territories to follow.

All joking aside, do you think PlayStation Now will be a success, or as Pachter believes, a failure? Let us know in the comments below.
