Naughty Dog has Started “Brainstorming” The Last of Us 2 Ideas, New IP Ideas

Pretty much ever since The Last of Us launched back in June, people have been wondering two things: whether the game will be ported to the PlayStation 4 and would they be doing The Last of Us 2 once development on all DLC fully wrapped.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Creative Director Neil Druckmann said how Naughty Dog just finished the Left Behind DLC, and with both he and Game Director Bruce Straley having been working on the game for four years, “it’s just time for a break, and to recharge the batteries.”

Even though they’ll be getting a well-deserved break, Neil did reveal how The Last of Us’ development team is already thinking up ideas on what to do next:

We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP – we’ve spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP. So we have to get some good steps and see… It’s kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that’s really worth telling, and that’s not repeating itself? And if we can’t, where can we get inspired – what is something that’s really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?

As for a PS4 port of The Last of Us, Druckmann talked about the limited resources they have at Naughty Dog, adding, “It’s something where we can have a feel of where the demand is, and where our time is best spent. It’s something that we’ll figure out as we move forward.”

Would you rather have The Last of Us 2, The Last of Us ported to PS4, or a new IP from Naughty Dog? Let us know in the comments below.
