Following the initial leak from Amazon, Activision has fully confirmed that Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be released for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, and PC this June as a “video game complement” to the Transformers: Age of Extinction movie, also out in June.
Serving as a follow-up to the Age of Extinction movie and War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron video games, Rise of the Dark Spark allows you to choose from over 40 playable characters from two different universes as they battle for the Dark Spark – an ancient relic as powerful as the Matrix of Leadership. Throughout the single-player campaign, you’ll be able to switch between the Autobots and the Decepticons, with gameplay described as similar to High Moon Studio’s Cybertron titles.
Rise of the Dark Spark also sees the return of the Escalation multiplayer mode, which sees you and up to three other online co-op players battling enemies in waves. This version of Escalation will see new and upgradeable defense systems, recognizable enemies, and more characters to choose from. There’s also a unified level-up system in Dark Spark, where XP earned in either the single player or multiplayer unlocks new characters, weapons, abilities, and bonuses for use throughout the entire game.
Mark Blecher, SVP of Digital Gaming and Corporate Development at Hasrbo said of the new game, “Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is an arc between the Cybertron and Earth based worlds of this popular franchise. This year marks 30 incredible years of Transformers. This game tells another chapter in the Transformers story that all fans will love.”

As for who’s developing Rise of the Dark Spark, Activision confirmed to Polygon that Edge of Reality (Mass Effect PS3, Dragon Age: Origins) is developing all versions, save for the 3DS version, which is being handled by WayForward.
