As if the ESRB rating for South Park: The Stick of Truth and its censorship in Australia weren’t enough of a tell, the game is graphic and obscene. So much so that the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) will also see a censored version of The Stick of Truth when it releases early next month.
This news comes from BT.com, who received a document alongside their review copy of the game that says, “7 scenes of about 20 seconds each are censored in the EMEA console versions of South Park: The Stick of Truth. The decision to cut this content from the game was made by Ubisoft EMEA.” The document also goes on to add that “each censored scene is replaced by an image background and a description text selected by [Trey Parker and Matt Stone].”
For those seven scenes being censored, five involve anal probing, while the other two involve abortion – one performed by a doctor on the player and the other by the player on Randy.
For additional confirmation, VG247 heard from Ubisoft that the censorship was a marketing decision and also affects the UK version of the game.
