First it was TechRadar with the report we’d be seeing it at GDC, and now Edge is reporting that the Sony VR headset will be unveiled at GDC 2014 next week, according to “developers familiar with the tech.”
This new report states that some third party developers already have the prototype, and they are calling it far superior to the first iteration of the Oculus Rift. However, it’s reported that there isn’t much in the way of software right now, but we should see a demo/tech demo of something at GDC from one of the first-party studios (DriveClub, maybe?).
As you’ve probably guessed, everything is expected to be revealed during the Driving the Future of Innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment presentation with Shuhei Yoshida, Anton Mikhailov, and Richard Marks. If what Edge heard is true, this presentation is being billed to developers as something they wouldn’t want to miss.
When Sony was asked to confirm any of this, they simply said, “We do not comment on rumor and speculation.”
If Sony does reveal their headset next week. we’ll be sure to let you know all about it.
