Taking effect over this past weekend, Sony has decided to raise the price of the PlayStation 4 console in Canada from $399.99 to $449.99, which is in respose to “changes in the market environment.”
Sony issued this statement about the price change (via GameSpot), but didn’t specifically point out the Canadian dollar as a reason for the shift:
The PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system delivers phenomenal play experiences that will shape the world of games for years to come and has quickly become the next gen console of choice with gamers in Canada. To respond to changes in the market environment, the price of PlayStation 4 will be revised from CAD $399.99 to $449.99 [manufacturer’s suggested retail price].
Going along with the PS4 console rising in price are the DualShock 4 and PlayStation Camera, both of which now have an MSRP of $64.99. As well, while we already knew of inFamous: Second Son being priced at $69.99 (in retail stores and on the PlayStation Store), MLB 14: The Show on PS4 is going to be $69.99 when it releases on May 6th also.
While actually finding a PS4 to buy may be tough as it keeps selling out, both Future Shop and Best Buy’s website reflect the new $449.99 PS4 price (EB Games is at the old $399.99) and new PlayStation Camera price of $64.99, but they still have the DualShock 4 at $59.99 as of right now.
If you were curious, a Microsoft spokesperson told the Toronto Sun that they had no plans to increase the Xbox One’s price in Canada.
