Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition for PS4 is “Not Far Behind”

Giving us a status update on Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition for the PlayStation 4 is Lead Producer Alex Mayberry, who explained to IGN that it may not be too far away:

It’s being worked on. I don’t have any release dates to announce, but it’s not far behind. They kind of have to wait for the PC side [note: Reaper of Souls releases for PC on March 25th] to wrap before they can completely finish, but they’ve been in parallel development with us the whole time. As we developed on the [PlayStation], they pulled it into the console version and then they make it work. So they’re still in the process of wrapping up that side of things, as they’ve had to wait for us to finish up. It won’t be long, but I can’t give an exact date as we still need to go through certifications.

Our goal when developing on the console side is to not just port the game over. We want it to feel crafted for that console. Certainly the user interface will be completely retooled for the console side of things, but their also looking at a number of features that’d be different from the PC side. I can’t go into details though.

As Blizzard has previously stated, the PlayStation 4 version of Diablo 3 will includeall the exciting updates and game-enhancing features premiering in Reaper of Souls on the PC.” You can also expect “a custom-designed interface, touch pad functionality for the new DualShock 4 wireless controller, and powerful social features tailored to improve your demon-slaying experience.”

In a bit of an odd move, Blizzard has confirmed that they’re also working on an Xbox One version of Diablo 3: Ultimate Edition. What’s odd about this is how Mayberry couldn’t confirm to Videogamer whether it would actually release on Xbox One, just saying, “I don’t know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can’t really comment on what that contract looks like. The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.”

Noting how simultaneously developing for the PS4 and Xbox One “makes more sense,” Mayberry added that it’s up to Blizzard and Microsoft to work out if the Xbox One version sees the light of day.
