Watch Dogs Sets Pre-order Records; Ubisoft Believes it Can Sell Over 6.3 Million

Destiny’s pre-order numbers may be “tracking towards setting an industry record for a new franchise,” but Ubisoft has confirmed that, with less than two weeks to go before launch, Watch Dogs is “now the most pre-ordered new IP in Ubisoft’s history and the most pre-ordered new IP in the entire industry this year.” It’s also the second-highest pre-ordered Ubisoft game ever.

Ubisoft Senior VP of Sales and Marketing Tony Key said, “These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs. The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands.”

GameStop Senior VP of Merchandising Bob Puzon added that, “based on the current level of customer pre-orders we have received, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”

During the Ubisoft earnings calls today, execs said they expect Watch Dogs to sell more than the first Assassin’s Creed, which would mean it should move over 6.3 million copies. CEO Yves Guillemot added, “We expect it to become a major heavyweight of the industry.”

Watch Dogs’ development is led by Ubisoft Montreal, with Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Paris, Ubisoft Quebec and Ubisoft Reflections collaborating.
