Now that Ubisoft has given The Division a new release date of 2015, the January rumor reported by Gamereactor from a source within Ubisoft Massive that said, “we will never be able to release The Division this year,” has been confirmed.
Well, following the delay yesterday, Gamereactor has received an update from their Massive source, where they confirmed that resources have increased, there’s “lots” of hiring happening right now, and other Ubisoft teams are helping out. Unfortunately, as the source says, “I still think that the [new] date is a tad bit optimistic as we still don’t have a functioning game and still have massive problems making our multiplayer component work at the concept stage. At the same time, both we and our publisher are incredibly happy with our game engine and Ubisoft will naturally make use of it in lots of upcoming titles.”
After saying how the “PlayStation 4 is the more powerful hardware” and the Snowdrop Engine “works better on PS4,” the source revealed that The Division is having many problems when it comes to cross-platform features for multiplayer.
When asked about Ubisoft previously giving The Division a 2014 release date, the source replied:
It felt like being punched in the face to be perfectly honest. At the end of the day we don’t want to do a Battlefield 4 and release an unfinished game. There’s too much potential in the concept that is The Division at the moment, that we’ve asked for more time and resources in order to fully realize this fantastic vision.
