The Catch-Up: May 21st, 2014 – Zenimax Files Suit Against Oculus

This could end up being a drawn out legal war.

General News

  • We’d heard rumblings about this previously, but now it’s official: Zenimax and id Software have filed a suit against Oculus VR and Founder Palmer Luckey. The suit alleges that Zenimax copyrights and trademarkes were infringed, along with Oculus and Luckey illegally misappropriating Zenimax VR trade secrets. It also appears as though Zenimax and id tried to work things out with Oculus, but obviously that fell through. [Via, Source]
  • The Metro Twitter account showed off some Vine videos of Metro 2033: Redux on PS4 that suggest it will run at 60fps. If a hint in the video is correct, the full reveal should happen tomorrow, May 22nd. [Twitter 1, 2, 3]
  • The June 2014 PlayStation Plus free games line-up will be announced next week, likely either on Wednesday or Thursday. [Source]
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 PS3 patch 1.18 fixes the issue with the Dragon calling card not showing up in the calling card menu. [Source]
  • Raiden IV: Overkill on PS3 will hit the European PlayStation Store on May 28th. [Twitter]
  • If you pre-order Ultra Street Fighter IV from the PlayStation Store, you’ll receive the 5 pre-order costumes offered with the retail version. [Source]
  • Pre-order Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn in Europe before June 27th, receive a variation of mobile suit MSM-04 Acguy, the GPB-04B Beargguy (originally from Model Suit Gunpla Builders Beginning G). [More Info]
  • The PS4 version of Bombing Bastards (Wii U gets it first) is on the way, with developer Sanuk Games saying, “It will take more time to develop (the game is being ported from Unity3D to Phyre Engine, as Unity3D does not appear to offer workable business terms for us on this system).” [Press Release]
  • The SCEA version of the latest Terraria patch is now live on PS Vita. [Twitter]
  • Tecmo Koei has announced that Samurai Warriors 4 for the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita will be released in North America and Europe this fall. More details should show up on June 20th. [Source]

  • Splash Damage (Brink) is hiring for an upcoming PS4/Xbox One/PC, according to a LinkedIn job listing: “If you are looking to get your claws stuck in to next gen AAA development then your hunt is over !   • There’s a chance Europe might see Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, as this statement reads: “And before I go, just a quick word about the recent release of Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer’s Call (aka Nocturne) on PSN in North America. While I can’t comment on whether this title will be released in Europe, I’ve been hearing a few stirrings regarding a possible European PSN release for Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 as PS2 classics. I can’t promise anything just yet, but I’m hoping that this might mean the conflicts with the emulator which prevented us from releasing the game on PSN last year have now been fixed.
