Overall, Watch Dogs became Ubisoft’s fastest-selling title when it launched last week. Looking at just the UK, Watch Dogs is now the #1 new IP in history, taking the title away from LA Noire, outselling it by 58%. As well, Watch Dogs has jumped into 17th spot in the all-time list of best launch weeks in the UK, with only games from the Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, FIFA, and Battlefield series’ ahead of it.
Comparing Watch Dogs’ UK debut to that of Assassin’s Creed III, which previously held the title of biggest launch for Ubisoft, Watch Dogs outsold it by 17%. Chart-Track added, “By format, PS4 dominates software sales, boosted by exclusive content and the release of a new Watch Dogs hardware bundle. This accounts for just over 53% of PS4 hardware sales while claiming the credit for a near 94% increase in total sales for the PS4 hardware format this week.”
It was also a very good week for the Wii U, with Mario Kart 8 finishing in 2nd place, becoming the 2nd best debut for a Mario Kart title in the history of the franchise and the #1 week 1 for any Wii U title since launch. Thanks to Mario Kart 8, Wii U hardware saw a boost of 666% last week, with 82% of that coming from the MK8 bundle.
