CD Projekt RED Anticipates The Witcher 3 Being Able to Do 1080p on PS4 “a Little Bit Easier” Than on Xbox One

Just in case you still didn’t know, the PlayStation 4 is technically more powerful console than the Xbox One. While most people want parity on a game across all platforms, that won’t be the case with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, at least not yet.

Speaking to Eurogamer, CD Projekt RED executive producer John Mamais has said that while they’re targeting a resolution of 1080p for both the PS4 and Xbox One, the team is still optimizing the game on both platforms and admits it’s easier to reach 1080p on the PS4.

It’s actually easier to develop for Xbox One for us because we’re PC developers. So everything we do on PC is for DirectX 11. And Xbox is also based on DX. So for the rendering side it’s a more natural progression for us to go to Xbox. But we anticipate being able to do 1080p on PS4 a little bit easier than on the Xbox.

In the same interview, Mamais states that while its known the PS4 is more powerful, they expect games in the future to run at 1080p for both platforms.

It’s just a slightly more powerful machine…That’s pretty known. But I think in the longer run everything is going to be on both platforms running at 1080p. It’s just taking developers longer to do it than they expected because the architecture is a little more challenging on the Xbox One.

For me personally, as long as both games are fun and play the same, then it shouldn’t matter that much whether it’s on 900p or 1080p. But then again, I’m no graphics purist.

Is the gap between 900p and 1080p really that big? And do you agree with Mamais that both consoles will have games running at 1080p soon?
