DOOM is Not Ready for a Formal Reveal Until Next Year

I guess we’re lucky that we managed to get a hold of some details regarding the upcoming DOOM title because id Software has said that the game isn’t ready for a formal reveal until next year. Apparently, the developer wanted to show off the title because of rumors that id Software and the DOOM reboot project are in trouble.

Bethesda Softworks VP of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, said:

We’re working with [id] to say, ‘How does this work? What do we want to show?’ And they’re like, ‘Look, we don’t want a stream to go up for a game that isn’t at the point where we would formally show it to the world, and now that thing is getting picked apart, and digested, and gone through frame-by-frame and getting nitpicked to death, when normally we wouldn’t be showing this to anybody at all.

Well, you’ve got to respect that. I recently wrote about developers releasing lush demos of their games way too far in advance, which leads to disappointment when games aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be. id Software has proven that it’s possible to keep things under wraps until they’re actually ready. Bravo!
