Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Targeting 1080p/60fps, The Last of Us PS4 60fps is “Really Stable”

When Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was shown off at E3, it was revealed that the game was going to be 60fps. More recently, Naughty Dog Lead Programmer Jason Gregory said, “We hope so,” when asked if 60fps would become the new standard in games.

Now, speaking with Eurogamer, Naughty Dog Community Strategist Arne Meyer discussed how they’re targeting 1080p/60fps for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End:

I think that’s what we want to push for with anything we’re doing on this generation. That’s sort of the mandate from when we were building the PS4 engine. Let’s see if we can do this and hit it. We hit it with The Last of Us Remastered, so why not stick with this?

As for The Last of Us Remastered, Meyer talked about how the 60fps in the game will be “really stable:”

I think you’ll find that it’s really stable at 60fps. There’s a lot of games out there that say they’re 60, they feel 60, but if you push it you find some frame-rate dips. I think every game’s going to do that, and it’s going to happen to us too. It’s not going to be something massive where you’re going to tell the difference. I can’t tell, but I’m not a frame-counter. Some people on NeoGAF can.

Specifically addressing the 30fps lock option, Meyer added, “When we came out and said we’re trying to hit 60, we saw that there’s a lot of debate between that, so why not cater to both sides of that. If you’ve really got a strong preference for that, why not provide that customization for you?”

Ultimately saying, “We’ll have to see,” Meyer was once again asked about the chances of an Uncharted remaster on PS4:

I personally think it would work well, because there’s a lot of attention on the studio between the success of Uncharted 2, 3, and The Last of Us. It’d be nice to give players the opportunity to go back and play the older games, and people who are new to the PlayStation platform. I think that’d be great – but I have no idea how that could fall into our timeline.

Eurogamer also notes how The Last of Us Remastered entered development when the PS3 version of the game wrapped, but full development with a team of roughly 30 people didn’t begin until about six months ago.
