Survival horror guru and creator of Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami, has said that the PlayStation 4 enables him to make more realistic horror games. In an interview with OPM UK, he said that lighting and resolution are important components of a horror game, and thanks to the power of the PlayStation 4, a more realistic game is possible.

So because the resolution’s higher, it’s more realistic. I can actually create something that’s more realistic. In the horror genre, [it’s about] the lighting. More lights in a level means there’s more variety in the situations, so that’s very good.

Mikami-san is currently working on the upcoming Tango Gameworks title The Evil Within. which is scheduled for release later this year on last-gen consoles alongside PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. PSLS’s Chandler previewed the game at E3 and noted that it could be “an amazing revival of big budget survival horror games.” You can read the full preview here.
