A Dead Island film project is finally to go ahead, it has been confirmed. Although Lionsgate acquired the rights back in 2011, it is only now that Deep Silver is moving forward with Occupant Entertainment to “package, produce, and finance” the movie. While Occupant Entertainment is still exploring the direction the movie will go in, the company said in a statement that it will “fast track the project for a production start in Q1 of 2015.”
Regarding the movie’s direction, Occupant Entertainment partners Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino said that the Dead Island series’ trailers “provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse.”
Back in 2011, Lionsgate said that the project will be an “an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling.”
Only time will tell how it will actually turn out.
