Sega has reported its Q1 earnings for the current financial year ending 2015, and notes that its video game business experienced an operating loss. Additionally, the company’s net profits are down by half.
During the first quarter of 2014, Sega earned ¥88.3 billion in revenue, which is only a slight increase from last year. Net profits are down to ¥5.5 billion, which is a decrease of 57.4%. The company is also expecting to make an operating loss of ¥7 billion in the first half of the fiscal year.
Sega has blamed uncertainty in the Japanese economy for these results alongside “softening” of the packaged software business, which saw sales of 1.7 million. Interestingly, the company’s Pachinko and Pachislot arcade machines division is what raked in most of the earnings.
Worth noting that Sega plans to release the survival horror game, Alien: Isolation, for last-gen and current-gen consoles in October this year.
